I had been to Bradford on Avon only very briefly before and have always wanted to come back to explore it more. So one weekend we packed our bags, grabbed the dog and went to spend 2 days at a countryside hotel Widbrook Grange which is very close to the town.

I usually don’t pick a hotel for its looks and facilities but rather for its location. This time was a bit different. I have been seeing this gorgeous Gregorian farmhouse hotel on social media for a while and wanted to stay there myself.

The territory of the retreat is quite big and I especially appreciated the area behind the hotel where our whippet could go for his crazy zoomies. It used to be a working farm and they’ve kept some things which reminded us of its historic past like an authentic vintage tractor and a hay cart.

The theme running through the hotel is a combination of modern industrial, rustic farmhouse decor and country living. It’s like going back in time. The hotel has only 19 rooms which makes you feel like a guest at someone’s big home.

Widbrook Grange is a dog-friendly hotel and our whippet Loki got his own welcome package which included a tennis ball, treats, a pack of wet food and poo bags. As it was a new place for him and he felt a bit nervous about staying alone in a room we took him with us for dinner. Loki was allowed to stay with us in the conservatory where there are 4 tables for guests to eat. He even got a comfy bed beside our table to stay with us while we were eating, so nice!

Before the three course dinner, we went for drinks in the bar. Widbrook Grange has a wide selection of gin and you can actually book a gin tasting session there. We were the only guests in the conservatory so it felt like a private dining experience. The food was delicious too, we had a cheese plate and rabbit for starters, lamb for the main course and ice cream and fruit for dessert. The staff was very attentive to my dietary requirements which was very kind of them.

We had an amazing sleep in a comfy king size bed. It was incredibly peaceful and there was no noise from the nearby town (we live in a quiet area of Camden but it can be quite noisy at the weekend) and no cars passing by. It is places like this which make me want to move to the countryside…maybe not just yet but in the not too distant future … #citygirl

We were guests at Widbrook Grange hotel. All opinions are my own.
