A Winter Mantel & Living Room Decor

Spread the love

It’s New Year’s Eve, and my Christmas decor has been put away for a few days now. I usually leave it up until after New Year’s, but I had the urge to get it done the other day so I just went with it. I also had my husband home to take down our heavy artificial tree, so that was another reason it all came down. While I am missing the glow of the Christmas lights, it’s nice to have the house looking more fresh and simple. My plan is to decorate for winter with neutral colors, cozy textures, and lots of plants.

I bought this striped throw blanket a few months ago, and haven’t used it until now. I had considered using it as a Christmas gift, but I just loved it so much that I kept it for myself!

It is the coziest throw blanket ever. The striped side is soooo soft, and then there’s also a cozy sherpa side. I love the texture of it for winter, and it goes great with my charcoal plaid pillow covers.

These two little evergreen trees sat on my mantel over Christmas. I moved them to my hutch and placed them in a couple vintage crocks. It’s a wintery look that I think still works for this time of year, so I’ll keep them out for now.

I opted for a simple look for winter decor on my mantel. My favorite thing on my mantel currently is the antique mirror that I picked up recently for $15! I love the shape and detail on it. I also love this beautiful walnut arched mirror that would give you a similar (although more expensive) look!

I replaced my more Christmasy garland with this eucalyptus garland. I think this garland looks quite realistic, and I love that it will work for spring too. I layered it with a strand of twinkly lights that I found at Michael’s just before Christmas. They have bells on them, but they are hidden way up the mantel. I kept my white candlesticks out and my vintage vinegar jars. I added some height to one of the candlesticks with some old books, so that my mantel has a more symmetrical look. The little green plants in the white pots are from Ikea.

I’ve also decided to decorate with lots of plants for the winter. My Christmas cactus is finally starting to bloom—better late than never!
