Chocolate Fondue Recipe

Spread the love

Whether you are having a romantic dinner for two or entertaining a crowd, chocolate fondue is always a good idea. It’s the perfect way to get your family or guests gathered around the table and visiting while they dip away!

Nothing beats a good snack board to bring your family and friends together. This Cupcake Fondue Snack Board is a fun twist on the classic chocolate fondue. A Hot Chocolate Snack Board is a great way to let your guests make their own drink combinations and for something a little more healthy, try a hummus snack board.

Fondue Chocolate

This chocolate fondue recipe couldn’t be any easier. Choose your favorite chocolate combination, add a little cream and vanilla and melt it all together. You can switch up your chocolate depending on your mood. I usually use a combination of milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate, using a 2:1 ratio. If you prefer darker chocolate use semi sweet and dark chocolate. I also like to make this with white chocolate. I prefer to use bars of chocolate rather than chips. They melt better and don’t harden as quickly. Use the highest quality chocolate you can for the best flavor and texture.

Candy Bar Fondue

Another thing I will often do is melt candy bars for the fondue. My favorite candy bars to use are Toberlone and Symphony bars. You can use candy bars with nuts or toffee bits too for some extra flavor and crunch. See what fun combinations you can come up with.

Chocolate Fondue Dippers

This is where you can really get creative! You can pretty much use anything!! I like to use a combination of sweet and salty and I like to use a tray like this to put all my dippers on.

  • Cookies such as vanilla wafers, biscotti, Oreos,or whatever your favorite is.
  • Graham Crackers
  • Pound Cake
  • Brownies
  • Angel Food Cake
  • Rice Krispie Treats
  • Meringues
  • Candy red licorice or even jelly beans
  • Marshmallows
  • Fruit Strawberries, orange segments, pineapple, pears, apples and bananas are a favorite at our house. Dried fruit also works great such as dried apricots, mango and papaya.

  • Pretzels
  • Potato Chips (trust me on this one)

What kind of Fondue Pot should I Use?

I own four different fondue pots. I actually still have my mother’s fondue pot from the 70’s! If I am doing a hot oil/meat fondue I use an electric fondue pot to get the oil hot enough and keep it at an even temperature. You can also use it for chocolate or cheese fondue but it has to be plugged in and then you have to deal with a cord and worry about someone tripping over it.

For chocolate and cheese fondue I like to use the smaller fondue pot that uses a tea light for heat. I own two of those. The trick is you just have to be sure and stir the fondue once in a while so that it doesn’t burn on the bottom as it get a bit hot in the center where the tea light is. It doesn’t heat as evenly as the electric but works well for cheese or fondue. I usually warm the cheese or chocolate in the microwave first and then put it into the fondue pot.

Another alternative is to use a small crockpot.

I assemble all my ingredients on fondue pot on this enamel tray.

Fondue Ideas

It is easy to add additional flavors to your chocolate fondue. Two of my favorites are marshmallow and peanut butter. For marshmallow I used a couple of spoonfuls of marshmallow fluff and just swirled it around. Just do the same thing with peanut butter.

After you have made your chocolate fondue and gathered your dippers all you have to do is dip away! The flavor combinations are endless!!
