Painting a ceiling a dark color

Spread the love

Are you a fan of painting a ceiling a dark color?

If you’re on the fence, it’s a “yes”.

Check out the difference it made when I painted my dining room ceiling a dark color. I love it so much, I painted our bedroom ceiling the same color.

It adds a lot of drama and atmosphere to a space. There are sliding glass doors and 2 windows in this space, sunlight was not an issue. Plus the walls are painted a lighter color. So, it’s high contrast for sure!

The room started off very builder’s beige. It even had beige carpet. I’m never a fan of carpet in a dining room, so that was removed and vinyl plank flooring was installed (by me).

I have a beam between our dining room and living room, so there was a clear line of where the dark paint would stop.

Eventually, I would like to cover the beam in a skin of barn wood. Like this… from Jenna Sue Design Co.

If you don’t have a clear delineation between rooms, you could add a beam like this too even if there isn’t an existing beam like I have.

If you’d like to try a dark painted ceiling for yourself, I highly recommend Sherwin Williams Peppercorn SW7674

Tons of inspiration photos for SW’s Peppercorn can be found HERE.

I’ve used SW Peppercorn quite a bit lately. Peppercorn was my accent wall in a design room I created recently. More HERE

Side note:: this bull head was stolen during move out of this design room. So sad.

And SW Peppercorn is my go to color for the Make it Take it Craft workshop series I coordinate at several Philly based Home Shows.

You can see how this dining room blends with the living room next to it Go HERE to see more of the living room.
