Goals mean nothing without purpose, precision and putting in the work to achieve them.

Being a wife and mom of two, in the beginning, I often found myself scrambling to figure out my life, what was I going to do on a daily, weekly or monthly basis?

SoI began making to-do lists and checklist and spreadsheets and all that jazz but they all mean nothing without setting up your goals and figuring out what it is exactly you need to achieve. I have a recipe or rather parameters that I use as a guideline to help me when planning out my goals for the month, the week and the year.

Every month I set out new goals, I hold myself accountable by saving them to my phone AND a planner like this one! This might seem crazy doing it double time but I’m the girl who needs it in her face every day so I’ll stick to it.

Why is setting goals so important?

  • They help keep you anchored to achieve something
  • Goals give you vision
  • Short-term & Long-term motivation
  • Keeps you organized
  • Goals give you something to look forward too
  • Measurement of your progress

How do I think about goals?

Like I said before, goals keep me anchored and because of that they also give me LIFE! Goals breathe oxygen into my soul and without setting them both big and small I often see myself swimming aimlessly in the abyss. I keep yearly goals, monthly goals and even crazier I keep daily goals for fitness and home life. Every night before bed I write down what I need to get done the next day and this may seem tedious but it’s what I call a brain dump – you just put pen to paper and jot it down, this is more like a goal checklist, but it helps my scatter brain stay focused.

A Recipe for Goal Setting

No matter what the goal is, get it written down and keep it someplace safe where you can remember to keep coming back to look at them.

  • Purpose

    • When getting ready to write your goals make sure you understand the purpose of your goal.
    • Think about what you’re aiming to achieve and why
    • Does this goal fit into a larger overall goal?
    • Knowing your goals purpose will help you make sure you’re putting down the right things on your list.
  • Write it Down

    • OldSchool Style
      • You can take a pen and paper and write them down using a planner like this or this can be super useful in this area
    • Use your phone
      • Most new smartphones have a notes section you can use to keep your goals and ideas. You can even get special note-taking apps like this one here!
  • Be specific

    • Use numbers
    • Keep names
    • Add timelines
  • Categorize

    • Make your goals more organized by putting them into sections that you can anchor back to (some examples below).
      • Health goals
      • Fitness goals
      • Home goals
      • Relationship/ Marriage Goals
  • Accountability

    • Find a way to hold yourself accountable, whether that’s telling a friend about it or even rewarding yourself for meeting the ones you keep.
